A: Kim Frye

A: Washington, DC (Native Washingtonian)
Q: What is your business, and who do you serve?
A: Helping Hands Cleaning Services – We are a Woman Owned Minority Business, CBE and MBE Certified. We are a provider of the EPD Medicaid Waiver Program. We provide chore services for seniors and persons with physical and mental disabilities, as well as Veterans. We also provide chore services for United Health.
Q: What is your company’s mission?
A: My mission is to serve seniors, those with physical and mental disabilities, and veterans with the best possible cleaning service. Everyone deserves to have a healthy, clean living environment.
Q: When did you start your business?
A: 2018
Q: What inspired you to start your business?
A: I had retired from nursing because of an injury, and I didn’t want to sit around and do nothing. I wanted something that I thought would be simple. I had no idea how complicated running my own business would be and had no idea how big it would become.
Q: What’s your favorite aspect of being an entrepreneur?
A: Knowing that I’m providing a quality service to my customers.
Q: What was the biggest challenge you had to overcome as an entrepreneur?
A: Finances! Finances! Finances!
Q: How do you keep yourself motivated?
A: Each day is a challenge, but I keep pushing, knowing that in the end, I will achieve my goals.
Q: What do you feel is the biggest strength of your company?
A: Our experienced home health aides and our knowledgeable and caring staff.
Q: How has The HIVE contributed to your success as an entrepreneur?
A: If it wasn’t for The HIVE…. I don’t know what I would do without it. It has provided me with tremendous support.
Q: Can you share a story or experience that you think exemplifies entrepreneurship?
A: There are many highs and lows in entrepreneurship. More generally, I have found myself working right beside my crew, late nights, and making sacrifices to further my business goals. It’s not easy, but it’s worth it.
